Living in the South can be wonderful, but the weather this time of year is a bit challenging. In Texas this year, we’ve had 100+ temperatures day after day that have beaten all records!
What can make it more bearable is enjoying healthy, thirst-quenching drinks and foods that keep you both hydrated and nourished.
If you’ve been struggling with cravings, fatigue, and weight gain, you may need to increase your water intake. Water is crucial to almost every function in the body. It energizes you because water is used to make energy on a cellular level in your body. Without it, we can't absorb nutrients or eliminate toxins – which could be the reason for some extra pounds.
My personal rule is to aim for about 60 oz - 70 oz of water, but you don’t have to just drink it.
You can also eat water-rich foods like salads, low-glycemic berries, and juicy watermelon. They will hydrate and give you critical nutrients to keep your electrolytes balanced.
Making things easy, simple, fresh and light is important. You don't want heavy food in you throughout the day.
Since our theme for August is Nourish, of course I wanted to share some of my favorite summer recipes with you. I’ve handpicked each of these recipes to help you stay cooler and hydrated while also eating Keto-Green.
Dr. Anna’s Basic Keto-Green Shake
This is the fast path to getting Keto-Alkaline and nourishing your body. Blend it up for your morning meal or an afternoon snack. You can also enhance it by adding greens, low-sugar fruit or almond butter for an extra flavor boost.
Strawberry Lemon Basil Detox Water
Make your plain water burst with flavor! The added fruit gives you the alkalinizing power of lemon juice and a little natural sweetness from low-glycemic strawberries. Crushed basil gives this an antioxidant boost.
This dish may sound like it’s for cheat day – but it’s actually so healthy you could eat it several days a week. “Queso” is made with a Keto-Green cashew blend, topped over a color-rich mix of fresh veggies, savory shredded chicken and zucchini “chips.”
The crisp crunch of the lettuce with the flavorful slightly spicy warm beef and cool creamy avocado is something you’ll want to have at least once a week- it’s that good! This is a fun meal to share with family and friends.
Spinach and Kale Salad with Bacon and Chicken
Get your antioxidants in greens with a healthy portion of keto protein for a perfect midday meal. You can easily whip this up in a few minutes.
Sesame-Seed Chicken Salad
This salad’s a real crowd pleaser, and a super healthy option for everyone in the family. So I like to make a larger quantity to keep in the fridge. Chopped pecans, celery and sesame seeds add flavor and crunch while providing healthy fiber.
Enjoy this elegant dinner salad that will take just minutes to toss together. The zesty orange dressing and avocado pair perfectly with oven-baked shrimp that tastes like a gourmet restaurant meal.
Crunchy and creamy, this satisfying salad is a perfect side dish for barbecues and picnics! Rich in color, flavor and it stores really well, too. Prebiotic, fiber-rich cabbage combined with apple cider vinegar can help support healthy digestion.
Green Goddess Mighty Maca Keto Green Ice Cream
Dessert… or breakfast? Yes, you can enjoy this treat any time! This creamy, whipped up version uses ice to make my Mighty Maca drink extra refreshing. You get a healthy dose of good fats with almond butter and coconut, plus a few other goodies.
