Yes, we were brainwashed!
I call it the “Enjoli phenomenon”! I can still hear the lyrics:
I can bring home the Bacon!
Fry it up in a Pan!
And Never, Never, Never let you forget You’re a Man!
‘Cause I’m a Woman!
Enjoli!
I can put the wash on the line, feed the kids, get dressed,
Pass out the kisses and get to work by five of nine!
Enjoli. The New 8 Hour Perfume for The 24 Hour Woman.
The commercial showed a gorgeous woman so well put together in all her roles!
And she was a 24 Hour Woman, of course!
Yes, while all the men in America were running out to buy Enjoli perfume, women (and girls), me included, were convinced we can do and have it all! Including tucking our husbands in, uhuh, after tucking the kids in, right?!
But let’s be real! There are a few people missing in this Enjoli picture: a maid, a cook, a chauffer, a personal assistant and a psychiatrist! LOL!
I tease about this but as women we have had some unreal expectations for ourselves.
Yes, I believe we can have it all, just not at the same time!
We can run ourselves ragged unless we have support, community, connection and balance in our lives. That is why it is so important for us to focus on some self-care, restore and heal ourselves. The best present we can give ourself is to be present.
I have worn many hats at the same time including, mom, doctor, mate, friend, scientist, entrepreneur, daughter, primary bread winner, volunteer, cook, housekeeper, and more, as you do. It can create a life of distractions and being pulled in so many directions.
I have come to appreciate that even when I take one or more hat off, I still have a head!
Simplify, simplify, simplify. As our lives are busy, I say to myself, “If it is not a heck yes, it’s a heck no!”
