Nothing fits! It feels like I’ve gained so much weight, quickly.
Weight gain is incredibly frustrating. For a lot of women, it comes on suddenly. It feels like before you’ve even realized what is happening, you’ve gained 20 pounds — and then it seems impossible to lose. Plus, all of your old tricks to drop weight stop working.
Weight gain is caused by a complex intersection of a few possible different factors:
- Increasing insulin resistance
- Decreasing muscle mass
- Sleep disturbances
- Stress and adrenal fatigue
- Thyroid dysfunction
If you’ve struggled with PCOS or insulin resistance before reaching menopause, you may find struggles with weight gain amplify once your hormones begin to change.
The fact of the matter is that your weight and size don’t determine your worth. But gaining weight puts you at risk for several conditions, including heart disease and diabetes, so it’s something you have to take seriously.
What can I do about it?
Losing weight is possible.
If you’ve gained weight and can’t seem to get the scale to budge, take heart. It is entirely possible to lose weight in menopause with a few adjustments to your diet and lifestyle.
Be sure to work with your physician and, at a minimum, get a fasting glucose test and Hemoglobin A1c Test (HbA1c) to see if insulin resistance is contributing to your weight gain. You may also want to seek testing for thyroid dysfunction, as thyroid troubles tend to increase during menopause, and that can certainly cause weight gain.
The great news is, that embracing an exercise plan and a low-carb diet that also incorporates plenty of inflammation-fighting vegetables can help jumpstart weight loss in menopause.

My new bestie!
“I started using Mighty Maca Plus 1 year into menopause. It has been part of my morning routine for a full year now. I started noticing the benefits within the first week. Less hot flashes, more energy, more mental clarity. I love the way it tastes too. I use the regular tub at home, and the individual packets when I travel.”

You can do this, Girlfriend. Just focus on:
It’s so hard to be at the mercy of your moods. And it’s even harder sometimes to make lifestyle changes when you feel so low. But, if you can take a baby step, you will find the light, Girlfriend.
HERE’S WHERE TO START:

Weight loss isn’t about vanity
Of course, we all love looking our best and wearing what we feel good in.
But at the end of the day, losing weight in menopause is serious business. It can help improve every other menopause symptom you have, from hot flashes to depression. And then, there are the long-term consequences of weight gain — an increased risk of deadly conditions, from heart disease and cancer to joint stiffness and liver disease.
