I don’t want to have sex anymore. Why?
Sexual dysfunction can manifest in several ways: lack of interest in sex, having interest but being unable to achieve arousal, lacking adequate vaginal lubrication, and being unable to achieve orgasm. All of these problems can seriously disrupt your sex life, which can in turn disrupt your entire relationship.
Low libido is primarily attributed to:
- Declining levels of sex hormones, especially estrogen and testosterone
- Stress
- Inflammation
- Insulin resistance
- Physical symptoms like vaginal dryness or prolapse that make sex painful
- Physical symptoms like leaking urine that make sex embarrassing
Women who suffer from urinary incontinence and pelvic floor disorders are more likely to experience issues with sexual health and low libido during menopause. Depression and mental health disorders also put you at higher risk for experiencing low libido, especially because many depression medications come with side effects that include low libido. Other medications can also affect sex drive, including blood pressure medicine and antihistamines. Women who experience sexual trauma or abuse may also experience a loss of interest in sex.
What can I do about it?
The good news is, you don’t have to settle for a sex-free life. In fact, I would like it to be true that post-menopause we can have more fulfilling intimacy and a satisfying sex life than ever before!
If you’re experiencing a loss of interest in sex, your doctor may recommend hormone therapy, including testosterone therapy to help. There are some medications that have been approved for pre-menopausal women to improve sexual desire, but they are still being investigated for use by women in menopause.
Lifestyle changes that include plenty of exercise and a hormone-balancing diet can also help immensely when it comes to improving libido.

What you eat can impact your libido. Foods that are loaded with nutrients and essential fatty acids help optimize hormone production and reduce inflammation and insulin resistance, which can be a driver of libido loss.
-
STEP TWO:
Increase Physical Activity

STEP THREE:
Improve Your L.I.B.I.D.O
This is my fun little acronym for improving
your lubrication, intimacy, bedroom, internal dialogue, diet, and oxytocin. When you address each of these areas, your libido is sure to recover.
Sexual pleasure is your right
It’s reasonable and fair for you to expect great sex now, and all throughout your life! If your libido is tanking, it’s important you stand up for yourself, your relationship, and your quality of life and take back your passion for sex. You don’t have to just power through and put up with these feelings forever.
