In this episode, I’m sharing snippets from my new book, Keto-Green 16! I start by reading the wonderful forward by my friend, colleague, and mentor, Dr. Perlmutter. I’m honored to have had Dr. Perlmutter share his thoughts on Keto-Green 16 for publication.

I’ve been developing Keto-Green 16 using medical studies and reports, personal experience, and clinical trial groups to come up with the ideal way to eat for women in peri-menopause. But it’s not only for women! There’s a chapter dedicated to working with your partner to do Keto-Green 16 together.

I share some of the experiences of women in my trial groups, including one who has had so much energy since starting Keto-Green 16. And she’s not alone, following the Keto-Green way does increase your energy levels.

Dr. Anna:
Oh yes, Keto-Green 16 hits the bookshelves today, and let me tell you, I am excited. There's really no better time in history that this book should be out and available. I know what we're seeing already and what you will experience in following my Keto-Green diet and lifestyle. You will see increased resilience, increased willpower, just a sense of strength and personal empowerment, and also community because you're not alone, we are doing this together, and that has been a really big part of my life and my programs. Well, bringing a book to market, having it on the bookshelves today, I can just tell you it is like the birth of another child for sure, and it is a labor of love. It is a labor of love. It goes in from every thought in creating the chapters, the design, but mostly for me, it was creating the 16-day plan and the study. And I'll share with you some of the study in just a minute and what to expect.

Dr. Anna:
As well, Dr. David Perlmutter, a mentor, and a friend has written the foreword, and I'll read that to you. In the foreword by Dr. Perlmutter, he starts out, "According to the National Center for Health Statistics, American life expectancy started to decline in 2014 for the first time in American history. This, despite the fact that the United States has the highest spending per capita on healthcare in the world. What's cutting our lives short, both here in America and in locales around the world where life expectancy is also dipping? The culprit isn't accidents or even infectious diseases. What is killing humans across the globe are chronic degenerative conditions like diabetes, cancer, coronary artery disease, and Alzheimer's. Though this might at first seem like a list of different and unrelated diseases, they do all share a common denominator, a root cause: systemic inflammation. And what contributes significantly to inflammation? Our Western diet."

Dr. Anna:
Now, this is so profound because what we've seen is with the coronavirus influenza and this current pandemic, we've seen those with chronic conditions more at risk. Knowing that there is a root cause and we can address this root cause through diet is really powerful, and that's why Keto-Green 16, number one, is so important to start doing right away.

Dr. Anna:
So I'm excited that this timing is just perfect, and also the results that we've been getting. So I'll share with you, in a group medical visits, we've been running group medical visits pre-launch of Keto-Green 16, as I fine-tuned my program and my plan. And so with the finely tuned plan, our most recent group medical visit was just prior, the first day was prior to the quarantine. So I was able to meet the group going through the plan.

Dr. Anna:
And I'm always studying my age group, so menopausal women and beyond. The average age of female participants in this study, now I've taken out, we've had male participants, so right now I've taken out that data so as not to skew my results, but female participants aged 61 years old. Look, let's be honest, in the menopause and beyond, it's harder to move the needle on the scale, it's harder to reverse diseases, but it can be done. But who studies menopausal women? Me, I've been doing it for years now with my Magic Menopause Groups, collecting data, looking at outcomes, and continuing to fine-tune my methodology to get the best results in the fastest amount of time that create lifelong improvements in our quality of health.

Dr. Anna:
So in this group, no different, average age 61 years old. And in 16 days the average waist loss, so inches lost at the waist, was 1.2 inches. I know, that's huge. And weight loss, 9.2 pounds, also huge, especially in this menopausal age group. What made the big difference? One thing was, my clients, told me, "Thank you for giving us something positive to focus on because it really did take our mind off the news and we could address our own health and just focus on getting as healthy and strong." And one 60-something-year-old client said, "Dr. Anna, can I tell you I had so much energy, I was helping the elderly neighbors that were younger than me." And so I love that attitude. That's a huge longevity factor, an attitude of strength and resilience.

Dr. Anna:
Now the man in the study, what did we see? He's 57 years old. Call him Danny. So Danny is 57 years old. He's 80 pounds overweight, on high blood pressure medicine, and about to start diabetic medicine. And in 16 days, he participated with his wife in the study, in 16 days he lost 30 pounds, 30 pounds! And he had to show up at the office for a drive up evaluation because he was starting to feel weak. Now, lo and behold his blood pressure was 100/70. Did I mention he'd had chronic high blood pressure and was on blood pressure meds? Good news for Danny, able to wean him off his blood pressure medicine, so he is on a fraction of the dose that he had been on for years. And about that diabetic med, no need to start. He is gung ho and doing another cycle of Keto-Green 16 right now. That is a huge improvement.

Dr. Anna:
And also symptom scores. Those questionnaires I have you do as published in my first book, The Hormone Fix, and downloadable in our book bonus page, hormone toxicity symptoms questions, reduced by over 50% on average in 16 days. That's fabulous.

Dr. Anna:
Now let me continue on with what Dr. David Perlmutter wrote in the foreword, he wrote, "Despite the seeming simplicity of ketogenic eating, cutting carbs, and increasing dietary fat, many people have a hard time with commonly experienced side effects because of the mantra - cut out all carbs. Many people get constipated." Now, as an aside, constipation is a huge risk factor for health, recirculation of toxic estrogens, estrogen dominance in both women and female and including male boobs, I mean, call them moobs, this is an area of concern, so regular bowel movements, meaning daily.

Dr. Anna:
So Dr. Perlmutter writes, "Due to mineral deficiencies of the classic ketogenic diet, most often potassium and magnesium, some people experience keto flu. In the pages that follow, however, Dr. Anna Cabeca presents a highly researched and nuanced approach to a ketogenic diet that significantly increases the likelihood of getting into ketosis, while decreasing the likelihood of these and other unwanted side effects. Her plan provides you the fiber you'll need to stave off constipation, as well as mineral-rich vegetables that will surely add to both the efficacy and tolerability of her program.

Dr. Anna:
Our goal with respect to nutrition is to consume the highest quality nutrient-dense foods available while targeting inflammation. Keto-Green 16 is a powerful program for accomplishing these goals and paving the way for lasting health, longevity, and disease resistance." Written by David Perlmutter. And he wrote this in December 2019 before our pandemic.

Dr. Anna:
Now, in Keto-Green 16, part one is: fix the hormones that control your brain, body, and belly. So I go into 13 weight loss hormones and how we nuance the management of them to get fabulous results.

Dr. Anna:
Part two, it is combining keto and alkaline for quick weight loss. Talking about my breakthrough Keto-Green 16-day plan designed over 16 days to get you the maximum results, that is an omnivore plan. And also this round, due to popular request, a vegan and vegetarian 16-day plan. So there are two 16-day plans in here that can really help you. And also, I talk about weight control supplements that really work, and it's not only for women, a whole section on getting your man on this plan, including hormone testing and supplements, and how Keto-Green is modified for them.

Dr. Anna:
And part three, I go into living the Keto-Green 16 lifestyle. Remember, getting green or getting alkaline, this important aspect, if you're not testing your urine pH, you really need to, because you don't realize how much your body requires and how much stress can affect your physiology. So start checking that urine pH. But that's where the lifestyle factor comes in. Lifestyle factors and lifestyle hacks to get into ketosis simpler and also to get alkaline simpler.

Dr. Anna:
And then I also have, what do we do after this, day 17 and beyond? I talk about metabolic flexibility and why that's so important, and the clean 16. Now, the clean 16, dear to my heart, because these are activities that you do to increase your oxytocin, many of them are to increase your oxytocin. And that's what we want to see. We want an increase in oxytocin, we want an improvement in overall alkalinity throughout our body, and oxytocin is the most alkaline hormone.

Dr. Anna:
Now, I've talked, and if you are listening to my podcast, which you are, thank you, I am so grateful, but also in conversations with Dr. Daniel Pompa and Jay Campbell and so many others, this aspect is vitally important and often the missing link. So in the clean 16, we go into daily affirmations and also reinforcing how important keeping a journal is, however, you keep it if it's an audio journal, a video journal, old fashioned, and I am pen to paper journal, and that really does make a difference.

Dr. Anna:
Also mindset, definitely during this outbreak, my whole concept of keeping it together has been practicing the skills of compartmentalization, addressing what I need to in the world, when I need to. And I typically have that time set aside from 8:00 to 8:15 every day just to take that time and catch up on world events, and also my thoughts that are reeling, that have been intruding, so I compartmentalize them to a designated time so they're not affecting me all throughout the day. And as they come up, I make a conscious effort to say, "Okay, eight o'clock I'll get to you." And I focus on what is in the present moment. Sometimes resetting with a deep breath is really just all it takes to get out of the physiology of worry and fear and uncertainty so that we can focus on appreciation, gratitude, positivity.

Dr. Anna:
This switch in mental training is essential for a quality life. I mean, where our mind goes, what we focus on, really does affect us. And ideally, what do we want to affect us most? Close family relationships. And then how we can cultivate close family relationships. Now, that is through taking care of yourself, self-care, because resentment, if we're experiencing resentment, remember that is lack of self-care, we can be grounded and strong in no matter what we're dealing with. So I want to encourage you, each and every one of you, to remember that to remember that you are in control, you are a gift to this world, you have a purpose-driven life. And with that, you can accomplish anything that you set your mind to doing. And I truly believe that, if you love it, if you see it for yourself, you can absolutely experience it.

Dr. Anna:
Before we close, I want to share with you some aspects of the Keto-Green 16 plan. So the 16 days, and starting out really focused on getting alkaline, and 16 hours intermittent fasting. There are 16 key food types in here that are designed to work together to help your microbiome, to support ketosis, support alkalinity, and support hormonal balance. As well as the timing instructions of how and when we eat, even from the minutia of not drinking with your meals, no more than four ounces, so you're not diluting your digestive enzymes, which can truly affect us. Key ingredients including, fermented vegetables like sauerkraut or kimchi, and cruciferous vegetables like broccoli, cauliflower, cabbage, I mean, really good for breast health, for hormone detoxification, and rich in fiber, thus feeding the microbiome. There are science and reason behind every part of the plan. And I know, I just love it.

Dr. Anna:
Now, why 16? Well, 16-hour intermittent fasting got a huge needle mover for us, especially in menopause, makes a really big difference in our life. And then 16 days, because in the research there are many programs that have been looked at for a short duration, as such 16 days. So I found a few that did show that we can get significant results, and I had this number 16 in my mind, I think because I love Sweet 16, 16 Candles, the movie, I mean, the list goes on with the number 16, it's a great number. But of course, I needed science to back it up.

Dr. Anna:
So yes, in 16 days we can get life-transforming results, and it's certainly proven by our group medical visits that have now been run continuously, and we are seeing fabulous lasting results in 16 days that are moving the needle in our blood markers including improving hemoglobin A1c. One of my clients I write about in the book was stuck at a hemoglobin A1c of 6.0 for a decade, and despite exercising regularly, dialing in her hormones, she still had struggles. But within a month of beginning Keto-Green 16, a repeat hemoglobin A1c dropped to her lowest in decades, and it was 5.4. I've seen the same in myself.

Dr. Anna:
The higher the hemoglobin A1c is over 5.3, the significantly increased risk we have towards dementia and Alzheimer's. The good news is, that's not static. We don't just have to watch you get diabetes to then treat you with medication, which is often the standard model. But what we can do through getting Keto-Green this way, we do see a shift. So for me, at one point my hemoglobin A1c was 5.7. I have diabetes on both sides of my family, my mom was in her 30s, my dad was in his 40s. I'm in my 50s, and now my hemoglobin A1c is 4.8. Pretty impressive, right? I tell you these markers make a big difference.

Dr. Anna:
And what we know from the influenza pandemic, from the coronavirus pandemic, is those with diabetes, insulin resistance is at increased risk for infection and this cytokine storm. So every little bit we do does help, it boosts our immune system, it boosts our resilience.

Dr. Anna:
Now, here's a fun fact that I didn't actually know when I was writing the book. There's a couple of points. One client said to me, "Ah, 16 days, that's pretty awesome because most people do seven days, 10 days, 21 days." I definitely did have my 10-day detox and 21-day plan in The Hormone Fix, and it's kind of what I've done, and I've always had great results, but I wanted something different for this., And the benefit according to my dear colleague who is a psychologist and social group manager, she said 16 days is perfect because very few people have ever been on a 16-day plan. Hence there's no history one way or another. Like for example, we've never failed a 16-day plan. Right? So I thought that was really very nice aside for the number 16, and maybe it's one of the reasons why it's so strong.

Dr. Anna:
There's another interesting side of that was brought up to me after I had chosen the 16 days, was in numerology or angel numbers, which I hadn't actually paid attention to, and someone brought it up to me. But according to this information, a number 16 resonates with personal willpower, independence, initiative, action, and overcoming obstacles. That for me was just really a powerful affirmation because we need strong willpower, and honestly, even if we're doing this in community and group, it is our own journey, hence the independence and initiative, and I think that's really beautiful. And it goes on to say, "Angel number 16 as a reminder from your angels that your thoughts create your reality. Therefore, ensure that you hold only positive expectations about your life, your lifestyle, and material issues." So staying positive, gaining personal willpower, initiative, action, overcoming obstacles. In numerology, number 16 resonates with wisdom, independence, and family. The numerology number 16 is a number of introspection. It's wise, intuitive, and tends to be independent. The number 16 is both spiritual and analytical, a philosopher with sound arguments.

Dr. Anna:
Well, anyway, that's just a little bonus aside for all of us here. And I can tell you from our study and working with clients in Keto-Green 16, and also who have been following my Magic Menopause Program or in my Keto-Green community, following the work in my book, The Hormone Fix, and wow, just supporting each other and community, that we've seen continued tremendous tremendous life changes.

Dr. Anna:
I totally love the story of Kathy, who said that just within weeks of starting my Keto-Green plan through Magic Menopause... And Magic Menopause is the eight-week program that I work with clients in person, in group coaching, personally, through video conferencing. I've been doing this for five years now. Many clients come in again, and again, and again because of the support in the group, and the continuation, I mean, we are on a journey, never just one quick fix, right? It's a lifestyle and a way of life that we create. So having a supportive community can really make a difference. And of course, there are nuances that come up in our lives. So that's where my Magic Menopause community comes together, and I work with them in this small group situation, which I just love.

Dr. Anna:
Now, Kathy in this group had said, she would come home from work in the renal ICU, and intensive care as a nurse and she would just be exhausted all day, just sit on the couch and not want to get up. Well, just in a few weeks, she went from being on the couch to getting out and back on her show horse that she hadn't ridden in two years and also interacting with the family again. And she said this to me, which I really love, she said, "Dr. Anna, not only am I enjoying life and my family more, I have energy, the couch and the couch blanket are basically divorced from me right now, but I am enjoying interacting with my family. And not only that, but they love me more too." So that feeling of love and belonging and connection. Now, that's priceless, isn't it?

Dr. Anna:
Another client, Heather said, she loved it when she went on her usual routine to the gas station, and the gas station attendant she'd known for quite a long while said to her, "Heather, you're looking just amazingly healthy and so much younger." That was reinforcement. Our health is our vitality. It will either age us or anti-age us, it will rejuvenate us. The skills that we can put together to rejuvenate us make a difference.

Dr. Anna:
For me, it's about helping you and helping others. But I know I couldn't do that without this Keto-Green way in my life. My story is shared in Keto-Green 16, and how I was having brain fog, memory loss, that terrible weight gain overnight, seemingly without doing anything different. But the Keto-Green way that I teach just has transformed my life, but not only that, my relationships. I'm in the best relationships in my life, and blissfully, this quarantine brought in all my daughters back under my roof, so seven females here. So my four daughters, myself, and two female dogs. And it has been fabulous. So that's what life's about for me. I am relishing this time of connection, and that we are in it together.

Dr. Anna:
