The wonderful Pedram Shojai is one of the most amazing men that I know.
He is the founder of Well.Org, the editor of BeMore Magazine, the author of several books (including his most recent New York Times Best Seller, The Urban Monk), co-host of the very successful podcast, “The Health Bridge,” the producer and director of the movies, “Vitality” and “Origins”.
Wow…and in his spare time, he it also a Taoist priest, a doctor of Oriental medicine, a kung fu world traveler, a fierce global green warrior, an avid backpacker, a devout alchemist, a Qi Gong Master, and an old school Jedi bio-hacker working to help people achieve their full potential…Oh, and he is also a family man with two young children.
In my talk with Pedram we discuss how to prioritize the important things in your life versus allowing all the everyday distractions to take over your mind and happiness.
He talks about meditation and how important it is for us to get our Zen on and take care of ourselves prior to focusing on others or on other issues going on around us. He says people must learn to, “Help yourself before you help the world.” I especially enjoyed him talking about how we all focus too much on our “external” representation…how we think we are appearing to others…versus focusing on what makes us happy and our own self-care.
I agree, creating a false outer persona is exhausting…just think of how people position themselves on Facebook…happy, happy, happy! Partying all the time, life so full…and then you hear that the same person is getting a divorce or has committed suicide. Something is wrong with this picture, and Pedram wants to help people “make an appointment with themselves” and re-align daily priorities…
