Intimacy In Midlife — Why You Deserve Better

Fact: Intimacy changes during menopause. Things hurt down there. Your body doesn’t respond to touch or foreplay the same way it used to. Orgasms seem elusive. And while men seem to get the little blue pill treatment effortlessly — we struggle with getting doctors to listen to us and getting the help we need.

It’s not fair.

But it doesn’t have to be that way.

Let’s take matters into our own hands. First, by talking about this more. Because when one woman suffers in silence — we all suffer.

Second, let’s take a spin through why intimacy changes in midlife and what I’m personally creating to make things go much smoother for you and your love life.

What’s Happening To Your Body Physiologically

As estrogen levels decline during perimenopause and menopause, your body goes through a series of changes that directly impact how intimacy feels.

Estrogen helps maintain the thickness, elasticity, and natural lubrication of vaginal tissue. When levels drop, so does that natural moisture and stretchiness. This often leads to dryness, irritation, or even small tears during intercourse.

Blood flow to the vaginal area also decreases, which can reduce arousal and make it harder to feel the same level of sensation you used to. At the same time, the vaginal pH shifts, becoming less acidic, which can make tissues more vulnerable to irritation and infection.

What’s more, your oxytocin levels are fluctuating as well. Oxytocin is the “love hormone.” The hormone that helps you feel connected to your partner. Ever been completely repulsed by the way he’s breathing? That’s probably because your oxytocin levels were bottoming out at the moment.

Overall, when your body is going through the hormonal rollercoaster that is menopause, you’ll often experience:

  • Decreased sexual desire

  • Weakened or non-existent orgasms

  • Less emotional connection or bonding

  • Increased feelings of isolation or disconnection (ever feel like running away to the woods?)

  • Mood changes and higher stress response (like when the slightest little thing just sets you off and suddenly you’re screaming…usually doesn’t set the mood too well )

How To Fix The Big Problem

So now that we understand why this is happening…how can we put a stop to it and get back to loving sex again?

The way I see it, when it comes to “fixing” the problems that menopause creates in your love life, you’ve got two viable options:

  1. Stop having sex at all.

  1. Lube up and go have some FUN.

I don’t know about you, but option #2 sounds a lot more appealing to me!

I’ve been working hard behind the scenes to create something that’s been missing in the world of intimate wellness.

A lube made for midlife women. Personal care that feels personal.

But I need your help with it.

You see, most lubes are full of questionable chemicals that are quickly absorbed into your bloodstream.

Just walk down the “personal care” aisle at any CVS, and you’ll find shelves of lubricants promising slickness, pleasure, or sensitivity. But most of them weren’t designed with menopausal bodies in mind — and it shows. Harsh preservatives, synthetic fragrances, and unbalanced pH levels can do more harm than good, especially when your vaginal tissue has become more delicate and sensitive.

Most mainstream products focus on men. Their pleasure. Their needs. Their comfort.

These lubes might solve for friction, but not for long-term tissue health. Some even contain ingredients like glycerin or parabens that can irritate or disrupt the vaginal microbiome.

But you deserve better. You deserve something that supports your changing body with ingredients you can trust — and an experience that feels beautiful and feminine.

That’s why Velvè isn’t just another lube. It’s a reinvention of what intimate wellness should feel like for women at this stage of life.

I’m formulating Velvè to be a squeaky clean, all-natural lube that gives superior slip and:

  • Isn’t sticky or greasy

  • Supports your V-flora

  • Encourages better orgasms

  • Doesn’t disrupt your hormones

I’d love for you to be a part of the launch of this product. Because I really value your insights and want to hear what you think of it.

What About Vaginal Moisturizers?

If you’ve been in my circle for a minute, you’ve probably heard me talk about Julva®, my signature vulvar moisturizer.

And just to be clear, this new product is going to be different from Julva.

Julva is meant to be used on a daily basis to help you support comfort and moisture down there. But it’s not really a personal lube. It doesn’t have the same slipperiness that a lube does. You can absolutely use both Velvè and Julva together, but the new lubricant is meant to be used during sex — and Julva can be used outside of the bedroom.
