Diving Deep into Pelvic Floor Dysfunction

Today I have a guest blog from Dr. Brianne Grogan, PT, DPT.
I interviewed Brianne a while ago for a Couch Talk podcast focused on Pelvic Health…if you missed that, you can still view it here.

As I have been talking about for a while now, keeping your overall sexual health in optimal shape as you age involves a lot of things…you need to have the right diet and exercise, reduce your stress and nurture your relationship, address dryness and other vaginal atrophy symptoms, …

Sexual health is about much more than sex

I have been posting a lot of new information on my blog lately relating to women’s “sexual health”.
I had already suspected that many of the men who follow this blog were likely getting tired of hearing about all of this “lady parts” stuff (unless, of course, they were passing it along to the special women in their lives…which I always hope they do)…oh, and guys…I have an upcoming blog just for you so stay tuned…
But I hadn’t expected a particular message from a …

You can choose NOT to live with urinary leakage!

As I discussed in an earlier blog on estrogen , our reproductive hormones naturally decline over the course of a women’s life (and men’s hormones decline too, of course!).
And along with the hot flashes, mood changes, skin changes and other menopause-related symptoms, natural downward shifts in estrogen cause a lot of our issues “down there”.
As we age, along with sometimes painful and embarrassing vaginal issues, such as discharge and dryness, many of us will suffer at some point from incontinence.
Honestly, I have delivered …

We also learned the differences between estrogens …

Estrogen versus Androgen – Do you know your body’s secrets?

Today I want to talk about something every woman should know about, because all women have it and many women use it…but few really understand it.
I’m talking about estrogen.
Now if you’ve been reading my last several blogs (check them out if you’ve missed them…they focus on hormones and each blog also contains a simple to understand/quick video…I’ve also posted the videos below), you know that our estrogen hormones fluctuate during our cycles and works with and responds to our other hormones as well.

What is a Hormone?

I received an email not too long ago from a fantastic woman named Karen.
Karen wrote and said…
“Dr. Anna, I have a request.  I’ve followed you and a few other doctors for some time now, and whenever they talk about hormones, they always assume I already have a basic knowledge…and guess what?  I don’t!  Most of what they say goes right over my head!  Now, I don’t want to sound uneducated, but I feel like I need to ask the basic questions to really understand what’s going …

Why DHEA is optimal for vaginal dryness, pain and pelvic health

I recently wrote this very detailed article on why the natural hormone DHEA is a superior treatment option for vaginal atrophy and menopause symptoms in women. I used DHEA when developing my new restorative feminine vulvar cream, Julva, because of its tremendous vaginal health benefits and safety.
I think you will find the article informative…and it may help you immensely.

Please feel free to provide the link to this article to your friends, loved ones and/or patients. Practitioners may link to it in their …

Neurology Meets Gynecology: Hormones and Menopause

Wow! I am super excited to have been interviewed by one of my favorite mentors…
Dr. David Perlmutter!
He interviewed me on his podcast, “The Empowering Neurologist“… about what might surprise you relating to hormones and menopause!
He is a Board-Certified Neurologist and Fellow of the American College of Nutrition. I have known Dr. Perlmutter for many years and have read many of his books and listened to his lectures.  I have been a fan and he has mentored me as well.
We’ve been on a scientific …

We may be getting better but we are feeling older

Women, I firmly believe the 1980’s saying, “You’re not getting older, you’re getting better!” This can be the reality for all of us. And it should be!
Yes, our bodies change as time passes…but too many of us are feeling older than our age. Especially pre, during and after menopause.
So how are women really FEELING…? (what the research says!)
There are many researchers out there routinely doing large surveys and studies about how women are aging, both in terms of actual physiology (hormone changes …

The story behind my new Julva feminine cream…

There are many normal physical changes that occur to our beautiful feminine parts over time.  This is just reality.  In general, some of us age better than others. And sometimes there are unnecessary changes and consequences that, up until now, have been ill addressed.
As a gynecologist and obstetrician I have delivered thousands of babies including 4 of my own. Through this experience I became acutely aware of the metamorphic changes that occur to our whole body, especially our breasts and vagina.
If you too …
