Menopause, Mental-Pause or Overwhelm?  Part II

by Dr. Anna Cabeca

Overwhelmed WomanAs you could see from my last newsletter, I have had some overwhelm!

Have you ever felt overwhelmed?

Seriously, at one point or another in our lives most all of us do.  When I was waitressing my way through college I learned the term “In the weeds”.  A typical shout out for help would be “Hey, I’m in the weeds, can you get that soup out for table 3 please?”

Ahh, how simple that was!  Now, I am in the weeds and the call for help isn’t nearly as simple or straight forward!  However, there are a few things that can make it better.

  1. Get Organized
  2. Keep a list
  3. Stay fueled
  4. Ask for help
  5. Smile anyway

My cousin Grace is a masterful organizer and de-clutterer.  Her help here really helped me have some peace in my home and office, and helped me have some structure.  Keeping a list is great to do, if only for the satisfaction of being able to cross something out at the end of the day!

Of course, we have to keep our tanks fueled with good nutrition, exercise, and positive self-talk.  Sometimes we forget that we can ask for help to get out of the weeds, but people in general want to help.  Smiling is so powerful and is a win-win all the way around.  Now people might think you are crazy for walking around smiling all the time, but the alternative is not good either, and frankly, when it comes to wrinkles, I want mine to curve upward!!!

Overwhelm effects our thinking, our concentration, our hormones, and memory.

OVERWHELM + PERI-MENOPAUSE (MENOPAUSE) = MENTAL-PAUSE !

Yes, actually, mental pause on steroids!

Mental-pause shows up as:

  • Forgetfulness
  • Disorganization
  • Finding yourself in a room looking for God knows what
  • Loss of concentration and focus
  • Calling your child the wrong name – oops
  • Calling your lover the wrong name – big oops!
  • Burning dinner
  • Angry and irritable, yes a bitch (Well, a ‘bitch’ if you’re a woman, authoritative if you’re a man – that still bugs me!)

Does this sound like anyone you know?

Well, besides following the above 5 tips, here are some tools that can help you right now.

  1. Take my Positivity Self-Assessment Questionnaire (PSQ). Positive self talk REALLY helps.
  2. Test your Hormones – you can order a salivary baseline hormone test here that will assess your adrenals throughout the day. Through November 28, 2012, I will include a 20 minute phone consult on the results.
  3. Brain/memory/adrenal supporting nutrients:

a. Mighty Maca (of course!)  Especially for the brain/memory nutrients it contains including turmeric, resveratrol, quercetin, green tea extract, maca, and so much more, 42 ingredients total!  It really does substitute for a handful or two of supplements.

b. Balance Cream which contains 20 mg USP Progesterone and Pregnenolone which has been shown to be calmative and support memory

c. DHEA vaginal or oral – DHEA is an adrenal hormone that supports memory, bones, and energy level.

d. SerenX™ – which I like to call my herbal Xanax.  Vida Serene is a 5:1 combination of a traditional Chinese botanical formula used sucessfully for over 700 years.  Vida Serene promotes a sense of inner calm and supports physical reserves in chronic and acute stress.

e. Keto-Alkaline® Protein Shake – when you support your body with amino acids, you fuel your brain and metabolism.  This is one of my favorites to take daily especially during the holidays when I need the extra support and am tempted to skip meals.

The holiday season can be tough – it is categorized as a high stress season – good and bad stress for many of us.  For those of us who can’t be with someone who made this holiday so special, we grieve again.  Follow the above tips, stay fueled and rested, support your body with nutrients, and stay very present in your body…not in your head so much thinking of what was, or could have been.  Not an easy task, but I am here with you.  Join me for extra support in www.womensrestorativehealth.com my virtual bootcamp to fight the fat, fatigue, and frumpy feelings and move into FABULOUS!

I look forward to seeing you all soon on many levels.  As always wishing you a Vida Pura!
